The Rev Dr. Francisco Alberca, Vicar

I am originally from Ecuador, and am married with two children, and currently serve as the Vicar with responsibility for the Latin American community at St. Paul’s Within the Walls.

Qualifications:

• PhD from the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, School of Biochemistry and Pharmacy, University of Guayaquil;
• Baccalaureate in Philosophy, Mayor Seminar “Reina del Cisne” in Loja (1989-1991);
• Degree in Philosophy, (Theory of Knowledge), Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1991-1993);
• Baccalaureate in Theology at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum in Rome, (1993-1996);
• PhD in Bioethics, at the Bioethics Institute of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery “Agostino Gemelli” in Rome (2000-2004);
• Diploma in Intercultural Mediation, Rome 2018.

Professional Activities

• “H.G.” Pharmaceutical Laboratory de Guayaquil, Quality Control department, (1987-1989);
• Professor of Philosophy, Theory of Knowledge and Bioethics in the “Reina del Cisne” Major Seminary, (1996 to 2000);
• Professor of Philosophy of Law and Ethics and Human Rights at the University of Loja (UTPL), (1997-2000);
• Researcher in Bioethics at the Bioethics Institute of the “Sacro Cuore” Catholic University, “Agostino Gemelli” Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Rome, (2000-2004;
• Il Girasole Institute, which is dedicated to the care of “special” children, where physiotherapy, speech therapy and other sessions are provided (2005-2009);
• Since 2010, I have worked on the revision of the Biosinternational Company Statute and then in the planning and implementation of corporate training courses organized by Biosinternational based in Rome.
• Since 2012, Professor of Bioethics: Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum in Rome;
• Since 2014 Vicar of the Church of San Paolo within the Walls of Rome;
• Since 2020 Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.
