Second Sunday of Advent
St. Paul’s Within the Walls Episcopal Church – Rome, Italy
IN THIS ISSUE:

Why We Love St. Paul’s

This week, we are sharing an email we received from a visitor who joined us for Wednesday Within the Walls! We love to welcome new people to our events and are grateful that Jen enjoyed her time.

Good morning –

A couple weeks ago, I was visiting Rome from Ottawa, Canada and just happened upon St Paul’s as I was walking around. I was quite taken with the beautiful artwork in your church and noticed a sign for your “Wednesday within the Walls”. I took a chance and came by a couple days later on Wednesday, November 9th.

I was so warmly welcomed, treated to wonderful music and shared a delicious meal with great conversation. I really enjoyed my evening with the group. Since being home, when my friends ask me for the highlights of my trip, I realize that I always bring up my unexpected Wednesday evening.

I wanted to send a thank you to the group, so I hope this email can be shared with them. And of course, anytime they find themselves in Ottawa I hope I can return the hospitality! (I really do mean it!)

Thank you
Jen Small

JNRC Needs

Dear St. Paul’s Community,

I am appealing to you for second hand clothes donations for the JNRC’s supply room. Thank you for helping us stay a reliable source of clothing for Refugees and vulnerable migrants in Rome!

Advent

Advent is the season of the Christian response to darkness and complacency: the season of candles and light.

Second Sunday of Advent
December 4th, 2022, 10.30 am

Join us in the Crypt at 9:15 before the service for coffee and reflections on the readings of the day. Our explorations will be based on a method used in African contexts. All are invited!

Following the service, all are welcome to a guided tour of the church with Larry followed by a lunch at the Hotel Quirinale! Plate of the day, coffee, and water will be offered for €15. We will meet by the church door and walk over together after coffee hour.

Lectionary Readings:

Live + Give

Is it this beautiful building, or the wonderful choir and organ music that accompanies our Eucharist? The joy of worshiping with people from all over the world, celebrating cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity?

The warmth of shared meals, the rich concert programs, or our outreach to refugees and migrants? Whatever your response, we invite you to share with us in keeping alive those things you value at St. Paul’s. This year we are aiming to raise at least €50,000 from offerings from our congregation, and the good news is that to date the Vestry and Rector have already made their giving estimates totaling over €26,000.
