The Baptism of Our Lord
This Morning – This Week – Upcoming Events – Get Involved
Today we give thanks for the Baptism of Akur and Theonie,
and welcome students and their chaperones from Taylor University, Indiana.
Welcome to St. Paul’s Within the Walls, the multi-cultural, multi-lingual Episcopal church in the heart of Rome. The main focus of our outreach ministry is the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center (JNRC), offering services to refugees and asylum seekers. Whether you are here for the first time, are returning visitors or regular members of the congregation, we invite you to participate as fully as possible in our worship and ministries.
For our younger members and visitors, there is a Children’s Corner with toys, books and coloring sheets near the wooden pulpit. Feel free to make use of it!
We would love the chance to talk to each one of you, so please join us in the garden for coffee before the Eucharist this morning.
- Prayers for Healing will be offered at the Altar steps during the Postlude by members of the Clergy, the prayer group and Daughters of the King. Please come forward if you would like prayers for yourself or someone else.
- After the Postlude Professor Rachel Hostetter Smith from Taylor University will give a brief talk on the Burne-Jones mosaics.
- Everyone is invited to join us in the crypt for lunch!
Please sign our digital Visitor’s Card and leave comments or questions, or subscribe to our weekly newsletter so you don’t miss out on what’s going on.

Upcoming Events
Luminaria: Concerts by Candlelight
Our very own Sunday concert series: this season all concerts begin at 18.30 and are free, (donations will be most gratefully received)!
St. Paul’s Book Club
Feel free to join this lively international group online on Thursday 18th January at 7pm. This month we are reading Let Us Descend by Jesmyn Ward. All are welcome! Please speak to Larry Litman for more information.
Farewell to Fr. Austin & Bishop’s Visitation
Sunday 28th January will be Fr. Austin’s last Sunday with us before leaving to take up his new post as Bishop of California. Bishop Mark Edington will be with us that day for Baptism, Confirmation and Reception. If you are interested in any of the above, please speak to Fr. Austin or Fr. Johnathan – preparatory sessions will be held on Wednesdays 17th and 24th at Wednesday Within the Walls, and on Saturday 20th.
This will be a joint service with the Latin American community, and will be followed by a farewell celebration of ministry in the Crypt.
Here for the Real
This year, we are calling on all St. Paul’s members to make intentional efforts to be real with one another. This involves learning more about one another, leading to improved relationships and a renewed ability to work and serve together. Being real also means being honest about how challenging it is to fund ministry without a greater base of congregational giving. Help us achieve our giving goal of €62,500 by contributing to our campaign today! We hope that every member and household is willing to be HERE FOR THE REAL and make a giving estimate for 2024.
Get Involved:
There are many opportunities for getting more fully involved in the life, worship and outreach of St. Paul’s.
On Sundays
Even if you’re only here for a short time, we want your help! If you can help us out in preparing the Altar, acting as Greeter or Acolyte, or reading the lessons and prayers, please speak to Andrea or call the Parish Office. The schedule is organized week by week via WhatsApp on the basis of availability. Training is given! Greatest current need: Greeters and Acolytes.
Prayer Group and Daughters of the King
The Prayer Group of St. Paul’s and Daughters of the King assist with prayers for healing on the first Sunday of each month. For information on the Prayer Group please speak to Ben Oduwole; if you would like to know more about the Daughters of the King, please speak to Yvette Manigold or Maleah Rios; or call the Parish Office.
Joel Nafuma Refugee Center
If you are interested in volunteering your time teaching on a regular basis, helping with the distribution of clothing and toiletries, or if you have professional skills you would like to offer, please speak to Mansur Nadri or send an email to admin@jnrc.it. The JNRC accepts donations of second-hand clothing and shoes (clean and in good condition, please), and underwear or socks only if new. We can also take some children’s clothing and toys.
